This is the first in the series of films that will captivate audiences in familiar (and new) ways. “The Crooked Man is a departure from all previous Hellboy films where Mike Mignola and the creator of the comics will finally shepherd an authentic version of his stories and characters in film form.

Millennium Media’s president said about the movie in a statement: In addition to their other confirmations, Millennium has also offered up details about the plot of Mignola’s new script, which follows Hellboy and a rookie BRPD agent as they become stranded in rural Appalachia in the 1950s, and encounter the titular Crooked Man, a hanged Civil War profiteer who’s come back from the dead as a local devil. Mignola of course did not write any of the first three Hellboy movies himself, though he did receive a story credit on Hellboy 2.

Perhaps most excitingly for Hellboy comics fans, the new film will be written by comic creator Mike Mignola. That confirmation also confirms the new film’s source material, the 2008 comic book title of the same name, which came out in conjunction with the Hellboy 2 movie. The existence of another coming Hellboy reboot was recently reported, and now Millennium has confirmed certain details, including the film’s title Hellboy: The Crooked Man (via Deadline). Nevertheless, Millennium Media is ready to go back to the Hellboy well again. The franchise then went dormant before being rebooted in 2019 with David Harbour taking over for Perlman.Ģ019’s Hellboy reboot was unfortunately a major flop, grossing just $55 million at the box office. Guillermo Del Toro was the first director to bring comic book character Hellboy to life on movie screens, crafting a pair of films starring Ron Perlman as the titular demonic giant. Millennium Media confirms plot and title details about their just-revealed Hellboy reboot movie.
